The pools in need of renovation at Schonminzbach Park had previously undergone sandblasting and cosmetic concrete repairs as part of the contract, but the client was not satisfied with the results.

The sandblasting process opened up the capillaries in the previously dense concrete surfaces, allowing water to seep in and causing the concrete’s alkalinity to deteriorate, as well as compromising the natural protection of the reinforcing steel against rust. Therefore, Beconart had to take measures to reseal those capillaries.

It was necessary to address numerous spalls along the edges, concrete flaking on the interior walls, and variations in the height of the basin walls, in addition to air voids. All exposed concrete surfaces were reworked to ensure levelness, repair damage, improve surface texture, and achieve color uniformity.
