Project: University of Potsdam - New Palace Building Location: Potsdam, Germany Client: Brandenburg Land and Building Authority (BLB) Architects: Bruno Fiorte Marquez Architects, Berlin

Beautiful concrete with elevated requirements for structural and smooth exposed concrete surfaces of exposed concrete class SB3. Cleaning and disinfecting all exposed concrete surfaces. Clean exposed concrete surfaces with wood structure in a way that preserves the surface. Removal of concrete residue and shaping of structural surfaces. Sealing cones in structural surfaces and imitating the local wood structure. Adjusting the color in closed anker holes using exposed concrete patching for a uniform appearance. Closing gaps and gravel placements. Leveling the edges.

Preserving natural beauty - preserving delicate structures in exposed concrete

Challenge
After carefully removing the formwork, the challenge is to preserve the best of the perforated structures when refinishing and cleaning the exposed concrete surfaces. It is important to use gentle cleaning methods and agents to avoid damage or corrosion. The natural grain and texture of wood, which can be seen on the concrete surface, is deliberately used as a design element in modern architecture.

Exposed Concrete Products and Preparations

In the historic setting of Sanssouci Park, architects Bruno Fioretti Marquis from Berlin have put a design twist on the Potsdam University campus. The new building impresses with its combination of modern design and the aesthetic quality of the exposed concrete surfaces with a smooth formwork structure. The fine natural grains and wood texture on the concrete surface convey nature and organic aesthetics.
