The vast spaces, at heights of up to 30 metres, require the use of various work platforms and techniques for descending onto the organic surfaces of exposed concrete, which calls for skilled craftsmanship. The architectural masterpiece will appear serene and complete.
Enhancing and treating exposed concrete
Focuses on Beconart In a project Stuttgart 21 On Repair of local concrete And the treatment of exposed concrete surfaces. In particular, the visible areas of large concrete structures are affected, and these require restoration of the exposed concrete once the formwork has been removed.
Post-construction work: Beconart focuses on the formwork for the cup-shaped elements that were subsequently removed. The fixing threads at the load-bearing points were removed and replaced with a closure cone with a concrete surface. The surface is modified by screeding, followed by the application and polishing of a layer to match the level of the surrounding areas. Local adjustments are also made to the joint patterns.
The challenge
To achieve the final finish, exposed concrete surfaces are locally restored to blend seamlessly with the surrounding areas. The main areas are first coloured using a transparent coating and then restored locally as well. Particular attention is paid to the precise restoration of the concrete, with the colour, sheen and texture adjusted to match the surrounding areas. These challenges are overcome at a height of 20 metres using mobile work platforms and ladders.
