Challenge

With regard to the architectural design of the noise barrier at the Regensburgerviertel car park in Nuremberg, the architects at BEHLES & JOCHIMSEN opted for the “trompe l’oeil” technique, applying a concrete glaze to create a visual effect. Consequently, the coloured concrete glazing gives the two-dimensional concrete façade a three-dimensional visual effect.

The challenge in this project was to glaze the surfaces of the precast concrete elements with such artistic precision as to create a spatial image that is both harmonious and dynamic. To this end, KEIM Concretal concrete coating was selected, which gives the glazed concrete an expressive and vibrant colour thanks to its pure mineral pigments.
