Our task
Design and processing of around 60,000 m2 of white, class 4 exposed concrete. In addition, around 110 km of joints, transitions, color homogeneity, lightly pigmented, flat mineral glaze and a concrete protection system whose long-term and sustainable sealing with Nano4You ensure a flawless appearance and usability of the surface.
Exposed concrete cosmetics on Europe's largest construction site with Beconart
Challenge
Huge areas require design work on organically shaped exposed concrete components at a height of up to 30 meters using various work platforms and abseiling techniques. The image of the architectural masterpiece will appear calm and complete.
Exposed concrete cosmetics & processing
Local concrete retouching and processing of exposed concrete surfaces are the focus of beconart in the Stuttgart 21 project. In particular, visible areas of solid concrete elements are affected, which require exposed concrete retouching after the supports have been removed.
The post-processing focuses on the supports of cup elements that were subsequently removed. The screw-in threads were removed at the support points and replaced with a locking cone with a concrete surface. The surface is brought into line with the level of the surrounding areas by roughening, applying and sanding. Local adjustments are also made to the joint patterns.
Challenge
For the final adjustment, the exposed concrete surfaces are locally retouched in order to optimally adapt them to the surrounding areas. The main surfaces are previously glazed and also locally retouched. Particular attention is paid to precise concrete retouching, which is adapted to the surrounding areas not only in terms of color but also in terms of gloss and texture. These challenges are overcome at a height of 20 meters on aerial work platforms and risers.
